The McDowell Agricultural Center is conveniently located in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of McDowell County, NC just south of the I-40 (Exit 86) & NC Highway 226 intersection.
The facility is easy to access from I-40 with ample parking . The Center consists of the main barn, an adjacent building with restrooms (handicap accessible), a storage room and a covered concession area and 3 outdoor class areas.


The main barn is 48x132 with 36 foot bleachers
on either side of a removable 40 foot showring.

The barn can easily be set up as a livestock auction/sale facility with 28 pens

The modern, convenient livestock unloading facilities at the rear of the barn were designed for easy drive through trailer unloading, unloading at an elevated ramp or unloading at the transfer truck loading dock.

A set of electronic weigh scales are set in the chute entering the rear of the barn for accurate unofficial weights. From there, livestock can be easily moved to the 34 foot washrack to the right of the scales or to the pens in the barn.

Cattle are easily moved to the auction ring, where the auctioneer has full view of the two holding chutes for animals awaiting auctioning and the exit gate for animals leaving the ring.

Several motels,restaurants travel centers and truck scales are located at the I-40 interchange (Exit 86) or at Exit 85, the next Westbound exit of I-40, for easy access to food and lodging.

Directions: From I-40 & Highway 226 (Exit 86) Go south on Highway 226 about 1/2 mile. Entrance to the Ag Center will be on left immediately past the NC Correctional Facility. The Center is on top of the hill at the end of the driveway.
